Massive Response to Nabil Group’s Discounted Product Sales During Ramadan

In Middle Eastern and other Muslim countries, it is common to see price reductions on essential food items during the holy month of Ramadan. However, in Bangladesh, despite being a Muslim-majority country, such initiatives are rare. Nabil Group of Industries, which has been working for the welfare of the country and its people for over a decade and a half, is selling all its products at reduced prices during Ramadan. This initiative has received an overwhelming response from customers.

Nabil Group has announced that from the first day of Ramadan, customers have been able to purchase various products, including rice and oil, at reduced prices. This offer will continue until the last day of Ramadan.

Abid Hossain Khan, General Manager of Nabil Group’s Consumer Division, stated that dealers cannot sell the discounted products at higher prices because each package has the reduced price printed on it. This ensures that the real consumers benefit from the initiative.

Shafiqul Islam, an auto-rickshaw driver from the Paba area of Rajshahi, shared his experience, saying, “I bought a liter of Nabil’s Foodela mustard oil at a lower price. Usually, during Ramadan, prices go up, but here, I got it for less." Similarly, Rahela Begum from the same area expressed her happiness at being able to buy oil at a lower price and appreciated Nabil Group’s initiative.

Bayezid Hossain, a school teacher from the Kharkhari area, noted that prices of premium rice, like Chinigura, typically rise during Ramadan and Eid. However, this year, he bought Nabil’s Chinigura rice at a lower price, stating that not only is it more affordable, but its quality is also better than other rice brands.

He further added, “Many traders take advantage of the increased demand during Ramadan to hike prices. But Nabil Group has taken a different approach. Instead of raising prices, they have reduced them, setting an example for other businesses to follow."

Rafiqul Alam, a Nabil Group product seller, also confirmed the tremendous response from customers. He mentioned that due to the Ramadan discounts, the number of customers has significantly increased compared to previous years, leading to brisk sales from morning till evening.

Aminul Islam, Founder and Managing Director of Nabil Group, highlighted the significance of Ramadan, stating, “Ramadan is the most important month for Muslims, offering a unique opportunity for spiritual purification and self-restraint. However, some use this time as a chance for excessive profit-making. Nabil Group has always conducted its business for the welfare of the country and its people. Besides reducing prices, we have also initiated a program to support the underprivileged during this holy month. As part of this effort, we are providing food assistance to 50,000 families in phases."

He further emphasized, “A common business strategy during Ramadan is to exploit market demand for maximum profit. But we have taken a stand against this unethical practice. Instead, we are selling products at even greater discounts than our pre-determined prices. As a result, not only the poor and needy but also the lower and middle-class families are finding relief. Nabil Group is proud to stand by the people of the country, and we remain committed to their welfare."

Nabil Group started its journey in 2006 with an initial investment of only 500,000 BDT. Today, it has become the fourth-largest food importer in the country and is also leading in agricultural product processing and distribution. In addition to contributing to the national economy, the company ensures fair prices for farmers’ produce. Due to its large-scale employment opportunities and high-quality products, Nabil Group has become one of the most prominent industrial groups in the country.

Alhaj Md. Jahan Baks Mandal, Chairman of Nabil Group of Industries, stated, “During Ramadan, daily expenses increase for both rich and poor families. Keeping this in mind, Nabil Group has taken the initiative to support the underprivileged. Additionally, by offering products at reduced prices, we are enabling lower and middle-income families to purchase essential goods at lower costs. Such initiatives from Nabil Group will continue in the future."

For over a decade, Nabil Group of Industries has played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s food and agricultural product supply and processing. It is one of the country’s largest importers of wheat, lentils, peas, soybeans, and other essential commodities.

According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR)’s 2024 report, Nabil Group of Industries ranks among the top four food importers in the country. The company holds a 10% market share in Bangladesh’s food industry, just 1% behind the third-ranked TK Group. Meanwhile, City Group and Meghna Group hold the first and second positions with market shares of 7% and 5% higher than Nabil, respectively. Unlike these competitors, who have over five decades of business experience, Nabil Group has achieved remarkable growth within just 15 years.

Currently, Nabil Group dominates several key sectors in Bangladesh’s product market:
📌 49% market share in lentils
📌 57% in chickpeas
📌 39% in peas
📌 24% in wheat
📌 16% in feed
📌 16% in soybeans
📌 11% in maize
📌 6% in cold-storage potatoes
📌 7.62% in paddy
