Nabil Group has secured a place among the top five in consumer goods imports

Over the past one to one and a half years, the import-dependent consumer goods market has experienced significant ups and downs. As a result, Chattogram-based Smile Food Products has entered the top four for the first time, while Rajshahi’s Nabil Group has maintained its position among the top five for two consecutive years.

However, the top three positions in consumer goods imports have remained unchanged, with three major industrial groups retaining their standings. Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) continues to hold the top position, followed by TK Group, which has moved up one step to secure second place. City Group, on the other hand, has dropped one position to third place.

This picture emerges from the 2025 consumer goods import data. The import-dependent consumer goods considered include chickpeas, motor dal, lentils, sugar, wheat, soybean and palm oil, and soybean seeds used as raw materials for producing soybean oil. The import data has been collected from statistics of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

According to NBR data, 14.1 million tons of consumer goods were imported in 2025, at a cost of approximately USD 7.05 billion. A total of 418 companies were involved in importing these products. Among them, the top 10 groups imported goods worth USD 5.38 billion, accounting for 76 percent of total imports.

In comparison, during the same period in 2024, imports also stood at 14.1 million tons, with a total cost of approximately USD 6.81 billion, carried out by 440 companies. This indicates that while the import volume remained the same, the overall import value increased slightly.
